This is where you begin! Stock up your kitchen with these baking essentials for beginners. I mean you may still use your oven for storing your roasting pans and empty casserole dishes. I won’t judge you, however, if you are wanting to step in the baking zone, I have compiled a list of top 10 baking essentials for beginners you should invest in immediately. (Please note, this post contains affiliate links*)
). Cake tins, muffin tins and cookie sheets. Once you get comfortable with baking, you will use these repeatedly, which is why I would suggest you invest in the finest quality and heavy-duty products. You may also want to invest in three different of cake tins; small, medium and large.
). Measuring spoons and cups and jug. Restrict your eyeballing skills to seasoning your pasta and spicing up your gravies because baking is science, and accuracy is imperative. If you are just starting to build your kitchenware collection, think ahead, think smart and stylish. Invest in smart looking pieces and you will only thank yourself later when you start spending long hours in the kitchen and are surrounded by beautiful and inspiring tools such as this set of Rose Gold Measuring spoons.
). Mixing Bowls. Most recipes will require more than one mixing bowl so it is wise to invest in at least two mixing bowls. One medium and one large. I strongly recommend you to invest in good quality, heat proof, glass bowls. They come absolutely handy when the recipe requires you to melt butter, chocolate, heat milk and so forth. These Pyrex Glass bowls are microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.
). Parchment Paper – These are magical since they are both grease-proof and moisture proof. No additional greasing is required, and they peel off cakes easily. This is both Microwave and oven safe.
). Metal Cookie Cutters – Don’t be fooled by the terminology here. These have plenty of uses other than simply cutting your cookies to desired shapes. For instance, cake decorations, creating cupcake toppers, cutting cakes and brownies, cutting fruits and certain vegetables into the shape you want. Remember we eat through our eyes first and eating or bowl of veggies or fruits will become so much more interesting if they are in fun shapes and sizes.
). Silicone Spatula and Whisk – You need a silicone spatula to fold in and mix ingredients without deflating the air you incorporated with a hand mixer. A metal whisk comes in handy when the recipe requires beating eggs lightly without losing its consistency.
). Stand Mixer or Hand Mixer – A stand mixer would be a wise investment, however, if you are on a budget, a hand mixer is a good starting point as it is one of the most important baking essentials for beginners.
). Pastry Brush – Finest quality pastry brush will help you achieve the best results whether it is used to grease tins or brush on top of pastry dough or brushing sugar syrups onto cakes for that light, moist, fluffy, texture.
). Cooling Rack – Ever wondered why those cakes and muffins get soggy at the bottom and eventually break? Lack of air circulation! Science, I told you ;). You absolutely need a cooling rack to rest your baked goodies right after taking it out of the oven.
). Piping bags and nozzles – What fun is baking without a bit of (okay, a lot) of decoration? None right? You need strong piping bags to avoid mishaps, and I cannot stress enough about metal nozzles, no plastic! Metal nozzles will produce the better shape, they do not grease like plastic nozzles and are easy to clean.
