No Recipe Post! Berries for breakfast, a healthy option for busy mornings!
Healthy breakfast is crucial to healthy living, however, not all days are equal and that is when the healthy snacks like berries for breakfast comes to rescue. Ideally, planning meals in advance is crucial to healthy living but ocassionally we all have our ‘the alarm didn’t go off’ days and that’s when I suggest the healthy quickfixes. Fresh fruits are generally the best option to nibble on whilst getting ready, especially, when there is no cutting, chopping peeling involved. I usually have berries stocked up throughout the week and on such days where there isn’t enough time to blend up a smoothie fresh berries come to my rescue.
Do you have your favourites amongst Berries? If so, I would like to know about it in the comments below.
I know, I know, for most of you there isn’t really a thing such as ‘favourite berries’, but raspberries have a special spot in my tummy! 😉
Everyone keeps saying how nutritious berries are but I did not seem to understand why berries are particularly a healthy option for breakfast which is why I decided to do some research and here’s why I believe;
1). Fibre – Fibre is important for healthy functioning of your digestive system and can prevent haemorrhoids and constipation whilst cutting your risk of heart disease and may also prevent cancer. Regular fibre intake right in the beginning of your day will leave you feeling nourished and less hungry preventing you from over eating.
2). Mental Sharpness – Berries are nutritional powerhouses that help you keep mentally sharp and a dose of these nutrients first thing in the morning helps you remain mentally active throughout the day. For further information on benefits of berries please refer to this article.
3). Good Sugar – Berries satiate your sweet cravings early in the day leaving you less craving for other sugary stuff. Whilst I have nothing against desserts and anytime is dessert time for me, it is a matter of self-realisation that comes with time and although desserts may be an important part of your life, creating a balanced life around your likes and dislikes if far more important and berries for breakfast serve just right to overcome the sweet cravings as the sugar from berries is labelled as ‘good’ sugar.
4). Vitamins and Minerals – Whilst we have heard that berries contain significant amounts of Vitamin C, a nutrient which helps prevent infection and aids healthy immune system, and consists of antioxidants, berries have high water content. This means that having berries for breakfast will keep you hydrated throughout the day which in effect means healthy, nourished, youthful skin throughout the day (as long as you also drink your water during the day as this is not a replacement by any means). The other benefit of berries also include a substantial amount of vitamin B9 aka ‘folate’ from berries, which helps in DNA formation and prevents birth defects. If you wish to read further health benefits of Vitamin B9, I would suggest you read this article.
5). Quick and easy – It is even simpler than pouring milk and cereals in a bowl, which is not particularly a healthy option anyway. Not all are mornings particularly same and when there is not enough time to blend a smoothie or layer up a parfait, thank God, we have berries for breakfast to recuse us!
